Dashboard camera captures inept attempt to extort cash from driver

Cases of people feigning injury to extort money from drivers are fairly common in China. Attempts as inept as this, however, are thankfully rare.

Such incidents by unscrupulous scammers have even been encountered here in Singapore. In January, a man had demanded compensation from a Stomp contributor after claiming he had been hit "by his car's rear". The man later fled, apparently unhurt, when a witness caught him out on his lie.

In this case however, the scammer's attempt is nothing short of hilariously bad.

Watch as the man, clearly drunk and incoherent, staggers in front of a stationary car, snaps a picture of the car's licence plate, then gingerly lays down to simulate injury.

The driver however, simply reverses, which prompts the man to struggle unsteadily to his feet before scolding the driver for ignoring him.

He tries his luck a second time, but now the driver is not having any of it. Reversing, the driver dodges the man, leaving him sitting on the road with an angry look on his face.
