Disgruntled Shanghai man uses forklift to overturn cop cars

He was so unhappy that the police had demolished his illegal construction on a Shanghai sidewalk that he decided to get back at them.

The 50-year-old, identified only as Ma, allegedly stole a forklift from his former employer and went on a rampage in Pudong district, Shanghai Daily reported.

In the incident on Tuesday, police said Ma first forklifted away an empty police car parked on the side of a road, damaging the vehicle.

The incident shocked passers-by who had gathered at the spot, the report said.

Another police car arrived and officers tried to stop Ma from causing further damage.

But the man forklifted the second police car as well, flipping it on its side and damaging a door.

Nobody was injured, the police said.

Ma fled the scene, but was caught by officers a few hours after the incident.

MENTAL PROBLEMS

Police said Ma was once diagnosed with mental problems, but it is not clear whether he was suffering from any such problems at the time of the incident.

It is not clear how long Ma had the building at the street side or what he was using it for.
