The East Jakarta Police arrested N, 67, an alleged forger of divorce and marriage certificates, at his house in Cakung, East Jakarta, on May 26.
East Jakarta Police detective Comr. Tejo Yuantoro said N was a cleaner at the local Religious Affairs Office (KUA), where he observed the making of marriage and divorce certificates.
"His clients were allegedly those who wanted to marry again before officially divorcing their spouses, those who were pregnant out of wedlock and those who wanted to avoid KUA bureaucracy," he said on Thursday, adding that two other suspects were still at large.
"The police removed 65 fake stamps, 26 fake marriage books for husbands and 24 for wives, and seven fake divorce letters for husbands and eight for wives," he said.
N was charged with articles 263, 264 and 266 of the Criminal Code on document forgery, which carry a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.
