Ducati hits traffic cop in South Jakarta

Traffic police officer Adj. Second Insp. Adj. Novandi Isnanto suffered injuries to his hands and legs after being grazed by a Ducati motorcycle he was trying to stop at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

The driver was on an overpass, which are prohibited to motorbikes.

South Jakarta Traffic Unit Chief Adj. Sr. Comr Sutimin said on Monday that the officer was being treated at Fatmawati Hospital.

The driver, Yuli Ander, 35, was speeding on Jl. Pangeran Antasari from Jl. TB Simatupang in the direction of Blok M when the incident happened, Sutimin revealed. Other traffic officers gave chase, arresting him on Jl. Tendean in South Jakarta.

"Ander has been brought in for questioning. We will see if he hit [Officer Novandi] intentionally or not," said Sutimin on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

According to the police, Ander could face a maximum penalty of a year in prison under the 2009 Traffic Law 2009.

Separately, Ander told a beritajakarta.com reporter that he had sped because he was late for work and could not use the brakes in time when he saw the police.
