Extremely powerful typhoon land in Kumamoto prefecture

An extremely powerful typhoon made landfall in Kyushu on Tuesday morning.

According to the the Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhoon No. 15 made landfall around Arao, Kumamoto Prefecture, just past 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The typhoon had a central atmospheric pressure of 945 hectopascals, and it packed sustained winds of up to 45 meters per second near the centre and maximum gusts of 65 meters per second, the agency said.
