Bangkok Remand Prison chief Aryuth Sinthoppan yesterday said Apiruj Suwadee, father of former princess Thanpuying Srirasm Suwadee, was now detained at the prison's zone 3 among elderly inmates.

The 72-year-old Apiruj - who on Friday confessed to defaming the monarchy - suffered from stress and doctors thus checked his health and urged fellow inmates to monitor him. Aryuth said Apiruj also had chronic illnesses including high blood pressure, gastric ulcers and gout - for which he has medication.

Aryuth said the prison had an infirmary to take care of all inmates and elderly inmates would be provided with dharma-oriented activities and appropriate exercise.
