Flight QZ8501: Kin waiting for news of loved ones

SINGAPORE - Relatives and friends of those onboard the missing Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501 went through another agonising day in the dark over the fate that had befallen their loved ones.

A woman from a maid agency said her worker Yuni Astutik, 40, was on the flight returning to Singapore.

"We knew she was on the flight back here when we heard about the incident on Sunday," she said outside a room set up at Changi Terminal here for relatives of the passengers of the missing aircraft.

A Singaporean man who was rushing to catch the 3.05pm flight to Surabaya, said his girlfriend Florentina Maria Widodo was supposed to return to Singapore on Sunday as she had earlier went home to visit her family.

Singaporean EddyTeh, 34, who was waiting for his afternoon flight to Bangkok, said he still had confidence in the airline.

"I'm a frequent flyer with the airline and I will not hesitate to take it again after this," he said.

The mood in the area outside the holding room was less sombre on the second day.

At least three police officers stood guard at the entrance of the holding room to ensure privacy for relatives and a Changi Airport Group spokesman was also at hand to provide information and assistance to the families.
