Four Singaporeans onboard boat that sank in China's Yangtze River

Four Singaporeans were onboard Singapore-registered vessel JMS Delta when it sank in China's Yangtze River yesterday, said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson today.

The Ministry is also in touch with the families of the Singaporeans and the companies they are working for.

MFA added that its Consulate-General officers in Shanghai have been sent to the accident site to provide consular assistance to the next-of-kin.

In addition, the Ministry said that it is working closely with the Chinese authorities on the ongoing search and rescue operations.

China's state agency Xinhua reported that although three passengers have been rescued, more than 20 people remain missing after the accident.
