After collecting more than 500,000 photocopies of identity cards needed by Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama to seek reelection as an independent candidate, Friends of Ahok has set forth the criteria that the deputy gubernatorial candidate will need to meet in order to pair with Ahok for the 2017 election.
Friends of Ahok spokeswoman Amalia Ayuningtyas said the deputy gubernatorial candidate should be in line with the character of the gubernatorial candidate.
"His character should be like pak Ahok; clean, transparent and professional," said Amalia in Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.
Amalia said her team had agreed with Ahok to take on a civil servant as the deputy gubernatorial candidate but she stressed that the candidate could also come from outside the civil service as long as he or she met the criteria that the team had set forth.
She even said that the deputy gubernatorial candidate could come from a political party.
She stressed, however, that her team had not yet found a suitable candidate for Ahok.
"Actually, the deputy candidate could come from any background, including from a political party," she added.
She said her organisation was not in a hurry to decide the deputy candidate for Ahok because the gubernatorial election would not be organised until 2017.
