Girl, 8, rescued from pigsty in China

An eight-year-old girl who was kept in a pigsty by her mentally ill mother has been rescued in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, China.

Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that the child, Xiao Zhong, was unable to speak.

She weighed a mere 7kg, equivalent to a four-month-old baby.

The girl was severely malnourished and diagnosed with a congenital heart disease and lung infection.

According to the report, her mother became pregnant after she was raped in 2006 and gave birth to a pair of twins but only Xiao Zhong survived.

Xiao Zhong, who was rescued last month when a local official visited her home, has since been hospitalised.
