Girl confronts passenger for allegedly molesting her on flight

A man has reportedly been arrested in Bhubaneswar, India, for allegedly molesting a woman on board a plane from Mumbai.

The Daily Mail quoted an airport official as saying that the man sat behind the alleged victim and kept poking her from the gap in between the seats.

The young woman retaliated by turning around to film the man, telling him loudly: "You're asking for forgiveness. Why? Because I'm a girl? And you have right to touch me any time, anywhere you want to."

The video was posted on YouTube on Jan 31 by user Shreyas Rao who claims to have received the footage and a statement from the "brave girl" who went through the alleged attack.

The statement reads: "This man on the seat behind mine put his fingers in the seat gap to touch me! I was very shocked for some time to react. By then the flight went to landing mode. Then the moment flight touched down, I got up. Saw his hand was again on the side ready to take up any opportunity to touch me!

"I created such a scene, humiliated him in front of the whole flight! He thought girls will usually keep quiet and he can get away with this! I have lodged an FIR (First Information Report) now! He is a very rich man of Bhubaneswar and is now very humiliated in front of the people who know him.

"Can't believe the ordeal I had to go through but being silent is a crime! The police officer was very helpful and the IndiGo staff remained with me throughout. The man is under police custody currently.

"I clicked his pictures and made videos, shouted so loud that the entire plane came forward to see him! I made sure I humiliated him as much as possible because I know law will do nothing."

In the video, an elderly man can be seen covering his face partially with his hand while a woman screams at him.

Halfway through the two-minute-long clip, he says: "I'm sorry about it, please stop it."

The woman continues berating him in full view of other passengers, who are standing in preparation to disembark the aircraft operated by low-cost carrier IndiGo.

According to Indian newspaper Daily News and Analysis, the airline confirmed "an unruly behaviour was reported", and that the crew on board immediately alerted the captain.

A report was subsequently lodged at a police station in Bhubaneswar, IndiGo said in a statement.

Daily News and Analysis quoted an investigating officer as saying that a case of outraging the modesty of a woman was registered following a complaint.

On Feb 1, a second video showing the same elderly man emerged on YouTube. It seems to have been filmed by the same woman, this time at what could be Bhubaneswar Airport.

The man can be heard apologising to the woman behind the camera for "touching you".

He also says: "I made a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes in life. I made a mistake, it's a big mistake."

When asked by the woman and a few men behind the camera whether it's a mistake or intentional, he insists it's the latter.

The woman's actions have been praised on social media, news.com.au reported.
