Hilarious English signs in China

Accurate translation of the Chinese text into English can be a challenging exercise.

The reason: the two languages are so different, both grammatically and phonetically, pointed out a netizen in a China Daily forum.

As many small business establishments in China can't afford to pay a professional translator, they rely on free online translators. The results are not always accurate.

Not realising they were making mistakes, business owners went on to make signboards and menus without getting professional proof-readers.

So the English statements on many signboards in China look odd and make no sense to foreigners and English speakers. They either scratch their head when they don't understand the meaning, or burst into laughter. Got it!
