A man has died and three others were sent to hospital after attending a music festival in Hong Kong on Saturday [17 September]. The deceased, human resources consultant Chow Wai Ho, fainted at about 9pm on Saturday and was pronounced dead in hospital about an hour later, the SCMP reports.
Chow and the three others had been attending electronic music festival Road to Ultra in Nursery Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District. In a statement issued by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority on Sunday, a spokesperson said the four had suffered heat stroke.
"The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) is very concerned about the medical emergencies that occurred during the Road to Ultra (RTU) yesterday. We regret that four members of the audience were sent to hospital due to heat stroke.
"It is very sad and unfortunate that one of them has passed away and we would like to express our deepest condolence to the family of the deceased. We also wish those who remain in hospital a rapid recovery."
According to the SCMP, the cause of death will need to be confirmed by an autopsy, and police officers are investigating a number of factors including drugs, medical background and the possibility of heatstroke.
Following the news of the events, some attendees have spoken out against the event organiser, complaining about a lack of water. WKCDA stated that due to the heat, the organisers "issued reminders that free water refills were available and encouraged participants to take advantage of these arrangements."
