House collapses after water level drops

THAILAND - A house in Angthong has crumbled and fallen down, very likely because of a sudden change in water level in the Noi River, according to provincial disaster-prevention-and-mitigation chief Chatnarong Siriporn na Ratchasima.

He said yesterday that the river's water level had gone down drastically and soil along the banks might not have been able to adjust.

"It had long been saturated with water," he said after inspecting the site where the house crumbled on Saturday.

However, Chatnarong said he would still ask authorities to conduct an examination and help determine the exact cause of the collapse.
