A young woman in Bihar, India, was tied to a tree and beaten up after she tried to elope with her boyfriend of another caste, reported Tamil Nesan.

The woman was admonished by her parents after they found out that she had been seeing a man from another caste. However, she refused to give up the relationship and the young couple ran away from home. They were later found by her parents and villagers.

A village tribunal was then convened and they sentenced the woman to be tied to a tree and beaten for her crime of elopement.

She was reportedly tied to the tree for five hours before being rescued by police. Authorities are now investigating the barbaric attack.
