Indonesian rapper in ICU after acid attack

An Indonesian band member is in intensive care after a meet-and-greet session with fans went wrong.

Mr Berry Manoch was entertaining fans when someone from the crowd lunged forward and threw a bottle of acid on his face on Saturday.

Mr Berry is a member of the rap-rock band Saint Loco, reported Jakarta Globe.

The incident took place at Malang, East Java. It is the latest incident of its kind in recent months.

Saint Loco manager Ingga Jaya Purda said band members were talking with fans when somebody threw a bottle of acid at Mr Berry and ran away.

"We tried chasing him, but couldn't get him. The person was actually recorded on CCTV, but he still hasn't been caught," said Mr Ingga.

Mr Berry was taken to hospital immediately after the attack and admitted to the intensive care unit.

"According to the doctors, his face has been burnt and he's being treated. Because it's a chemical substance, the doctor says it could take up to three to four days to treat him," Mr Ingga said.

"In an acid attack case, the burn happens in several stages so it could still get worse."

He confirmed reports that Mr Berry suffered burns to 80 per cent of his face.

"He has yet to regain vision in his left eye, while the vision in his right eye is still blurry," he said.
