INS Vikrant to be auctioned

India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is going to be put up for sale on the e-auction site of the Ministry of Defence.

Bidding will open on Dec 18 at noon and close by 4pm on the same day. The ship was inducted into the Indian Navy in 1961 and guarded the Indian seas for 36 years till her decommissioning in 1997.

It was then converted into a museum ship and was docked at Vikrant Jetty Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The Maharashtra government has since made known its inability to maintain it, thus the decision to auction it.
