Jakarta to run anti-radicalization program

The city administration is to hold an anti-radicalization dissemination programme, targeting senior high school students.

Jakarta National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol) head Ratiyono said on Tuesday that the programme would be run in six schools in the city - state-run high schools SMA 108, SMA 86, SMA 47, SMA 29, SMA 46 and SMA 32, all in South Jakarta.

"The programme aims to give the students enough knowledge to understand their surroundings, so that they will not be easily enticed by radical movements," he said as quoted as by beritajakarta.com, adding that speakers at the programme would be former members of radical movements.

Ratiyono said the programme was also expected to reduce the number of social conflicts, including student brawls.

"We hope students and teachers will be more cautious and will work together to fight radicalism at school," he said.
