Japan, North Korea to hold talks next week
A Japanese delegation led by Junichi Ihara (4th R), the director general of the foreign ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, and a delegation from North Korea led by Song Il Ho (5th L), ambassador for talks to normalise relations with Japan, meet in Stockholm on May 26, 2014.

Japan and North Korea will soon hold a meeting of director general-level foreign ministry officials, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced Wednesday.

The meeting is expected to be held in a third country as early as next week, according to sources.

During the planned intergovernmental talks, North Korea will likely explain about members of a special investigative committee that Pyongyang recently promised to set up to reinvestigate the whereabouts of Japanese abductees.

The meeting will be attended by Junichi Ihara, director general of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, and Song Il Ho, North Korea's ambassador in charge of negotiations to normalize diplomatic relations with Japan.
