Japanese climber killed near Everest

NEW DELHI - A Japanese man was killed in Saturday's massive earthquake in Nepal, the Japanese Embassy in Katmandu said Sunday.

According to the embassy, two Japanese were climbing near Mt. Everest when the earthquake caused an avalanche. They were taken to Katmandu by helicopter, and at a hospital, the man in his 50s was confirmed dead. The embassy said the woman in her 50s was receiving treatment.
