KABUL - Avalanches caused by heavy snowfall have killed at least 22 people in the mountainous northern Afghan province of Panjshir, leaving dozens more trapped in their homes, officials said on Wednesday.
Deadly avalanches are common in Afghanistan's high mountainous areas in winter, and one in the remote far northeast in 2012 left 145 people missing, presumed dead.
