Man arrested for threat to blow up Air India plane

KOLKATA - One Prasanta Biswas has been arrested from Bongaon in North 24-Parganas by the special task force (STF) of Kolkata police in connection with the threat call that was made yesterday to the Air India office in Bowbazar.

The caller had threatened to blow up an Air India aircraft after hijacking it.

The officers of STF were able to obtain call details from a telecom service provider, which led to the identification of Biswas in Bongaon as the one who made the call.

A team of the STF went to Bongaon to arrest him today. Biswas will be produced in court tomorrow with police praying for his police custody so as to dig deeper into the matter.

Police are also looking into possible connections between the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) - the group linked to the Burdwan bomb blast - or any other terrorist outfit and Biswas.

The possibility of Biswas's call being a prank is also not ruled out either.

However, taking no changes, security has been beefed up at NSCB airport with thorough checking of passengers and luggage being carried.

Air India aircrafts are also being thoroughly checked. A bomb detection squad has been deployed at the airport and an extra eye is being kept all around the airport to detect any suspicious object.
