Man burnt alive in witchcraft ritual

In a macabre incident in northern India, a man was stabbed with a trident and his hands chopped off with an axe before he was burnt alive.

And while this went on, the perpetrators forced the victim's wife and son to watch and dance around the man until his body was completely burnt, Malaysian Nanban reported.

The incident in Mandla district, about 270km from Bhopal, was purportedly to exorcise evil spirits harboured by the man.

The victim, identified as Brijlal, had gone to an ashram (a religious retreat) where he met the person in charge, a woman named Parvati, to seek her help to drive away a so-called bad spirit he thought was disturbing his son.

Instead, the woman, branded by the police as a sorceress, ordered six of her disciples to stab him with a trident and then chop off his hands with an axe.

After that, they reportedly doused his body with kerosene and set him ablaze.

Police have arrested the seven - four of them women - who allegedly conducted the horrific rites as well as seized an axe and several books relating to black magic.
