Police officers arrested a 39-year-old man, thought to be a Malaysian, with the initials AB early on Monday in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, for carrying 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine.
"The suspect has a Tawau [Malaysia] ID as well as a Palu [Central Sulawesi] ID. We are still waiting for confirmation from the authorities," East Kalimantan Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Fajar Setiawan said.
Fajar alleged that AB, who was arrested along with his wife, SUT, who possessed a Tarakan, North Kalimantan, ID, had brought the drugs in 20 packages worth a total of Rp 2 billion (US$153,000).
He said that based on the suspect's confession, AB had arrived in Tarakan from Tawau in a speedboat and continued via land to Balikpapan.
