Man crushed by elevator doors moments after being rescued

A video circulating online shows how a passenger who was stuck in an elevator met a tragic end just minutes after he was rescued.

The incident occurred at an apartment block on Jun 6 in Fuzhou, China.

According to Apple Daily, two passengers, including a 53-year-man surnamed Guo, got stuck in the lift of the apartment block for about 20 minutes.

Eventually, maintenance staff arrived and managed to open the doors of the elevator, allowing the two passengers to get out.

Mr Guo realised he had left his wallet on the floor of the elevator, and turned around and re-entered the lift to retrieve it.

But the elevator car, which had been stationary, then suddenly restarted and began to descend quickly, leaving Mr Guo's right foot hanging in the elevator shaft.

He was caught between the elevator doors, which ultimately crushed him to death, Tomo News reported.
