Li Shun, born in the 1990s, spent three months and 150,000 yuan ($23,010) renovating an old warehouse into a ghost castle in order to propose to his beloved in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Jan 1.

Li rented the warehouse of nearly 300 square meters for five years with a monthly rent of 5000 yuan after finding it at Pingdingshan Park in Shapingba district, where he met and developed a crush on Zhou Yaxue at the beginning of 2015.

"My girlfriend said she wants to have a home at the park where some old Chongqing buildings are preserved when we first met. The warehouse with creepers on its walls looks like a ghost castle in fairy tales. My girlfriend, who has an artistic temperament, will like it," said Li.

Considering Zhou is a writer and artist, Li designed a studio and a reception room for Zhou to paint and chat with her friends.

Everything about the castle represented Li's love to Zhou. Zhou's favourite flower, daisies, are grown on the top of walls, Zhou's paintings are placed around the studio, and even the whole decoration style is as simple and natural as possible to match Zhou's artistic temperament.

The romantic castle moved Zhou greatly, and she said, "I never expected such a great surprise," and accepted Li's proposal.
