Modi temple in Gujarat demolished

Modi temple in Gujarat demolished
Indian villagers assemble and pray by an idol of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a temple erected in his honour at Kotharia village near Rajkot, some 225 kms from Ahmedabad, on February 12, 2015.

After Indian prime minister Narendra Modi said that he was appalled that some of his fans had built a temple devoted to him, those involved in the project said that the followers would instead dedicate the temple to Mother India.

However, as the temple was built on government land in Rajkot, Gujarat, local authorities demolished it.

Hundreds of Mr Modi's followers had donated funds for the temple, which featured a seated statue of Mr Modi.

The statue was topped with a wind gauge in the shape of a lotus, the symbol of his Bharatiya Janata Party.
