N Korean minister in Brunei for 3-day visit

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, received in audience North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong at Qashr Al-Meezaan yesterday morning.

The minister is in the Sultanate for a three-day visit in an effort to boost bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

Accompanying Ri were Hwang Chol, Deputy Director General of the Department of Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other senior officials.

Also present at the audience ceremony was the North Korean Non-resident Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Kang Chol and Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng.

Later in the afternoon, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, also received in audience his North Korean counterpart.

HRH greeted Ri Su-yong in a warm welcome upon his arrival at Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan. Following the less than 30-minute audience ceremony, HRH then hosted a luncheon for North Korea's Foreign Minister.

Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, the Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Dato Lim.

Ri replaced his predecessor Pak Ui-Chun in April last year following the 2014 North Korea parliamentary election.

Ri and his entourage, who arrived here on Tuesday, are scheduled to depart today (Thursday).
