BRUNEI - Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Laila Utama Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Razak arrived here early this mor-ning for the 19th Annual Leaders' Consultation.
A statement from Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the prime minister will be meeting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, today.
The prime minister and his spouse, Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor, are also expected to attend a luncheon hosted by His Majesty in their honour. The annual consultation is the highest annual event in the calendar of Malaysia-Brunei relations, the statement read.
It added that the consultation would allow the two leaders to discuss and appraise the progress of ongoing co-operation since last year's consultation, as well as explore new initiatives toward further strengthening the longstanding existing ties between the two countries.
The visiting Malaysian entou-rage include Foreign Minister Dato' Sri Anifah Hj Aman, as well as chief ministers of Sabah and Sarawak.
During the previous consultation in Malaysia last November, both leaders had "noted with satisfaction the significant progress in the demarcation of part of an identified priority area".
In a joint statement, the leaders also welcomed the adoption of standard operating procedure for the joint hydrographic survey to determine the boundary from Pandaruan River and Sungai Menunggol to their respective end points.
Welcoming the Malaysian premier and his entourage at the Brunei International Airport was the Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awang Abu Bakar Hj Apong.
Also present were the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar; Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng; Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Nor Hj Jeludin; Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih Abdullah and Commissioner of Police Dato Paduka Seri Bahrin Md Noor.
