The new Russian ambassador to Brunei is expected to arrive in the sultanate sometime in March, said the outgoing Russian Ambassador to Brunei Victor A Seleznev.
"Hopefully the next Russian ambassador to Brunei who will succeed me will arrive somewhere in March," said the ambassador on the sidelines of the Russian Diplomats' Day photo exhibition at the Star Lodge Hotel in Jerudong yesterday.
Seleznev, who has held the ambassadorial post since March 2010, told The Brunei Times that he has had a memorable time in his near five-year stint in Brunei.
The envoy previously held the deputy director-general post at the Department of Multilateral Asian Issues, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In July 2010, he inked a memorandum of understanding to set up the Russian Embassy at the then Holiday Lodge Hotel - now known as Star Lodge Hotel in Jerudong.
Looking back at Brunei and Russia's diplomatic relations, he said ties started when Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, made an official visit to Moscow in 1995.
Pointing to a photo displayed at the exhibition, the picture illustrated the ambassador-at-large in Moscow with Seleznev.
Also in the photo was the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng.
"Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna and the whole of Brunei will always have a place in our hearts and I will not forget Brunei's great hospitality in all my years here," added the first Russian ambassador to Brunei.
