CHINA - To ward off evil and to pray for good fortune, this barefooted man in Pan'an county in China's Zhejiang province was willing to risk searing heat and injury on Monday. He cheerfully ambled across a pile of burning charcoal and firewood, sweeping the red-hot embers at the same time. Dozens of men participated in the traditional ritual called "Lianhuo", or fire walking, which was listed in 2005 as an intangible cultural heritage of the province.
