Owner of 1.5 tonnes of condoms claims they were meant for recycling

A 38-year-old woman has claimed ownership of 1.5 tonnes of condoms abandoned on an empty plot in Ayutthaya's Bang Ban district.

Naput Mentong, who faces the charge of storing hazardous waste without a licence, said she had bought poor-quality new condoms for Bt30,000 (S$1,226) from a factory in Pathum Thani and left them on her land a year ago.

She planned to sell them to a recycling plant in Samut Sakhon. The presence of the condoms on the land made headlines.

Tambon Mahapram Municipality filed a police complaint against the owner of the condoms for allegedly moving items considered dangerous to the woman's land without permission.

It initially planned to destroy the condoms in an incinerator.
