A policeman accidentally shot himself in the foot inside a train of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 on Sunday morning, an LRT personnel confirmed.

"Yes, confirmed ang incident. Duly coordinated na sa commanding officer ng police officer concerned for proper action," Spokesman and board secretey of LRTA Hernando Cabrera told Inquirer.net.

"Somehow sumabit baril niya sa bag ng isa pasahero. Naka chamber ready to fire (which is against existing policy when inside the stations and trains) kaya pumutok," he added.

In a viral Facebook post by netizen Regie Panogan, a gunshot was heard inside a train along V. Mapa station at around 7:20 a.m. on Sunday.

"May narinig akong malakas na pagsabog at halos mabingi ang aking tenga! Then accidentally pumutok pala ang baril ng pulis sa loob mismo ng LRT train, in front of me then everyone of us was so scared, asking what happened?" Panogan said in his post.

He said the cop went out of the train "as if nothing happened."

The LRTA personnel said the accidental discharge of firearm by PO1 Aaron Torres was confirmed by Regional Public Safety Battalion head Police Chief Inspector Wilmer Binag.

Torres, who is assigned at LRT Line 2 at that time, was later sent to a hospital

Cabrera said the Philippine National Police will be filing administrative charge against Torres.
