Singapore - An act of patriotism.

That's how Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. described the enthusiasm of officials over the prospect of the country's possible hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

"It's more of patriotism. If we don't do it, then we don't have any trust and confidence in our capabilities as Filipinos," said Cojuangco.

Brunei was supposed to host the 11-nation Games four years from now after Malaysia's turn in 2017, but the resource-rich sultanate begged off due to the lack of facilities during the SEAG Federation meeting Thursday.

With the withdrawal, Filipino officials welcomed the possibility of the country taking over as substitute host.

"The offer is there, so let's grab it," said Cojuangco.
