There is an outcry over ATMs that dispense only $50 notes ("Customers upset over more ATMs dispensing only $50 notes"; Wednesday).
If we consider the different denominations of widely circulated dollar notes in sequence - that is, $2, $5, $10, $50 and $100 - we will find that the next higher denomination is always two or 2.5 times the value of the preceding one, with the exception of the $50 note, which is five times the value of the $10 note.
Issuing $20 notes would solve this problem, and ATMs that issue both $20 and $50 notes would become less of an issue.
