Police investigate Cirebon train accident

The police have continued their investigation into the cause of a crash between a Bangunkarta passenger train serving Jakarta-Surabaya and a freight train at Waruduwur Station in Cirebon regency, West Java, on Saturday evening.

"The Bangunkarta train hit the freight train from behind when it stopped at Waruduwur Station," West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono said as quoted by Antara news agency in Bandung on Sunday.

He said the collision, which occurred around 7:15 p.m. local time on Saturday, injured two passengers. "All passengers were evacuated," he added.

Sulistyo said workers were dispatched to remove railway coaches and freight cars that blocked the tracks shortly after the incident occurred.
