In 1984, postman Umakant Mishra from Kanpur was accused of stealing Rs57 from the money orders he was given to distribute. He was suspended after a police complaint.
His case dragged on for 29 years. But on Nov 25 this year the court found him innocent. Mishra had remained suspended and had retired three years ago, not receiving any salary all these years.
