Sin Chew Daily reported that "girlfriend renting service" is a thriving business in China, especially during Chinese New Year season.

Some single men pay about RMB1,200 (RM772 or S$260) to rent a fake girlfriend so that they could bring her home for the Lunar New Year celebration to introduce to their parents.

An online girlfriend renting service provider, Xiao Ping, said the men could do fake marriage registrations but they are not allowed to sleep with the girls.

"About 80% of the men who are working in cities away from their hometown rent a girlfriend to please their relatives, especially elderly parents who worry about them not getting a partner," he said.
