A school in Chennai declared a one-day holiday after a late-night party to celebrate the principal’s birthday and Thanksgiving the day before, upsetting parents who were not told about the closure.

Students arrived at the St John’s Senior Secondary School in Mandaveli on Tuesday only to find that there would be no classes that day, Malaysia Nanban reported.

“Many of us arrived in the morning but the watchman told us that the school was closed. He said the school declared the holiday after a party to celebrate the principal’s birthday and to mark Thanksgiving,” an angry parent said.

School authorities claimed that they informed the parents through text messages.

Apparently, the school also sought assurances from the parents that they would not go to the media about the matter.
