SEA games animation proposed

Brunei yesterday proposed an animated video of traditional Southeast Asian games to be produced and displayed at an ASEAN cultural festival in Brunei next year.

Under the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Museums Department will produce a 20-minute video, featuring two-minute segments from each ASEAN member state.

The proposal was submitted at a meeting of the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Culture, which was held as part of the 48th meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information, according to a press statement from the ministry.

Acting Assistant Director (Culture and the Arts) Md Abdoh Damit, who headed the Bruneian delegation, said at the meeting that the video would help young people enhance their awareness and understanding of the unique history of Southeast Asia, as well as cultural similarities and differences in the region.

The project aimed to support the strategic objective of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint, which was adopted by leaders of ASEAN in 2009, to preserve and promote regional cultural heritage.

It is expected to be completed within six months of the Mini Festival of ASEAN Cultural Expression, which will be held in Brunei during the first half of 2014.

The ASEAN Sub-Committee on Culture meeting coincided with a separate meeting of the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Information.
