BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei - The Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) this week made an introductory two-day visit to Brunei, calling on his counterparts in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Rear Admiral Lai Chung Han yesterday paid a courtesy call on RBAF Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih Abdullah at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) in Bolkiah Garrison.
Following the courtesy call, he visited the RBAF Museum for a closer look at the historical records and sources of military equipment, activities, identifications and historic events in the armed forces' history.
The Chief of Navy also visited the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Headquarters located at the Muara Naval Base, where he made a goodwill call on RBN Commander First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit.
His arrival at the RBN Headquarters was met with a general salute. Rear Admiral Lai then inspected the guard of honour mounted by RBN personnel.
After the goodwill call, he was taken for a ship tour of KDDB Darulaman, one of the four offshore patrol vessels in the Darussalam class.
He also had the opportunity to visit the RBAF Defence Academy at the Sungai Akar Camp.
According to a press release, the RBN and RSN interact through various activities such as exercises, courses, meetings, seminars, conferences and exchanges of visits.
MinDef added that the commitment of both navies in enhancing bilateral cooperation at multiple levels within the organisation have strengthened the professional relations and camaraderie between personnel of the two navies.
The ministry viewed Rear Admiral Lai's visit on Wednesday and Thursday as valuable to the defence ties between Brunei and Singapore.
