As many as 30 schools in Indragiri Hulu regency, Riau, were forced to close as floods inundated classrooms and made access roads impassable.
Head of the Indragiri Education Agency, Ujang Sudrajat, said the decision was made over fears that the floods would disturb the learning process.
He said the affected schools were located in the districts of West Rengat, Rengat, Pasir Penyu, Seberida, Sei Lala and Batang Cenaku.
"They are elementary and junior high schools," Ujang said in Rengat on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He called on the teachers of the affected schools to assign work that could be completed at home as the semester was nearing to a close.
