Surabaya mayor nearly faints while assisting families of AirAsia victims

Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini almost passed out on Thursday afternoon due to exhaustion while offering assistance to the families of victims from AirAsia flight QZ8510.

Based on kompas.com observations, four personnel from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) rushed to the antemortem command post at the East Java Police headquarters in Surabaya carrying an oxygen tank.

"She is suffering from extreme fatigue and needs oxygen," a PMI officer who refused to mention his name said when questioned by the press.

He, however, said that Risma was fine and conscious.

Since Sunday morning when AirAsia flight QZ8501 was declared missing by the government, Risma has continued to offer support and assistance to the families of flight victims. Risma said she wanted her city administration to help the central government and AirAsia Indonesia send the bodies of the passengers to their families.

On Tuesday, Risma helped carry the mother of one the victims who fainted after hearing news that the joint search and rescue team found some bodies in Pangkalan Bun waters, Central Kalimantan.
