The police have arrested a suspect identified only as DH, 39, in Depok, West Java, on Thursday for allegedly fatally stabbing a domestic worker named Aryani and then robbing and burning her employer's house in Pejaten, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
"The suspect was arrested at 2:45 a.m. when he was asleep in his cousin's house. We confiscated 20 US$100 (S$134) notes that he [allegedly] robbed from the house," the head of the Jakarta Police's General Crimes Directorate, Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti, said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
On Wednesday morning, neighbours of Aryani's place of employment saw a fire burning in the house at 9 a.m. They evacuated Aryani, who was alive at the time but suffering from multiple stab wounds, and her 10-year-old daughter, Linda. Aryani died later that day in Husni Thamrin Hospital in Central Jakarta.
DH allegedly burned the house with gasoline after stealing $2,000, seven mobile phones, two tablets, three pieces of jewelry and one camera.
