Teacher beaten dead over land dispute in Bangladesh

A college teacher was killed in an attack by his rivals over a piece of disputed land in Moheshkhaliapara village in Teknaf upazila on Friday night.

Deceased Shamsul Alam, 43, son of late Fazal Karim of the village, was a teacher of Bangla Department at Teknaf Degree College.

Police quoted victim's family members as saying that Shamsul sat in a arbitration with his neighbours Abdul Malek and Mohiuddin to resolve a conflict between them over the ownership of the land around 3:00pm.

At one stage, a group led by Malek and Mohiuddin swooped on Shamsul and beat him mercilessly with sticks and bamboo, leaving him critically injured.

Villagers rushed him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital as his condition was deteriorated.

Later, he died on way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Muktar Hossain, officer in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said they arrested three people as of yesterday for their alleged involvement with the murder.

0Away in Moulvibazar, A man was killed allegedly by his rivals over a disputed land at Madangouri village in Kulaura upazila on Friday, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The deceased is Shafiqul Islam, 60, son of late Abdul Gafur of the village.

Police quoting locals said, there had been rivalry between Shafiqul and his neighbour Mozammel Mia over the ownership of a piece of land for long.

Mozammel attacked Shafiqul with a sharp weapon and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot, during an altercation between them over the issue around 7:00pm.

Contacted, Amal Kumar Dhar, officer in-charge of Kulaura Police Station, said being informed police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.
