A 13-year-old girl, who eloped with her boyfriend, ended up being sold to a man old enough to be her father in Hunan, China, reported China Press.
The girl, known only as Zhao, was forced to marry the man, known only as Koay, in his 40s.
Her boyfriend, said to be in his teens, had apparently sold her off for 20,000 yuan (S$4,305) after running away from their hometown in Zhejiang in 2013.
According to the daily, the girl had tried to run away from her husband, said to be a farmer, but failed in nine attempts.
Local police only found her recently after years of intelligence gathering.
The girl's father, when interviewed by the daily, said he lodged a police report after Zhao did not return home in 2013.
He said his daughter had dropped out from school after studying for a year.
He added that she had befriended a boy at a skating rink before both of them eloped to the hilly areas in Hunan.
Police has detained the farmer to assist in the abduction. The boyfriend who sold her off has been sentenced to four years' jail for the crime.
