Thai former Investigation Bureau chief's associate jailed

Bangkok's Ratchadapisek Criminal Court has sentenced Sudathip Muangnual to five years in prison on a lese majeste charge under Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

She was arrested along with others in the purge of ex-Central Investigation Bureau chief Lt-General Pongpat Chayapan's network last year.

Sudatip was ordered to serve two-and-a-half-years in prison after the court halved the term following her useful confession.

Sudathip allegedly cited a member of the Royal Family to win a palace catering job.

Pimpisa Sunthornpipit, 38, the wife of lese majeste and gun possession suspect Chakan Phakphum, surrendered to police yesterday, after police issued an arrest warrant for her on a gun possession charge, said Metropolitan Police Area 2 superintendent Pol Maj-General Korkiat Wongsumet.

Korkiat said Pimpisa confessed to the charge which was filed after police searched the couple's home in Bang Khen district.
