A surrogate mother has called for protection after her agent allegedly started intimidating her for cancelling her surrogacy contract. The woman is now pregnant with a surrogate baby.
She said she has decided to end the deal in the wake of surrogacy scandals, because when she agreed to take money for carrying a baby, she did not know that such services were shady.
Police are now investigating many surrogacy cases.
"I am ready to take care of the baby myself," the 35-year-old woman said yesterday, adding that her husband had understood her decision.
Her agent and hirer, however, have refused to accept her decision and tried to force her to comply with the contract. Under the contract, she was offered Bt15,000 (S$590) per month for a period of eight months plus a lump sum of Bt230,000 when she delivered the child.
The agent had even dispatched three robust men, who claim to be police, to her house, she alleged.
After receiving her complaint, the Pavena Foundation provided help and coordinated with the Khok Kram Police Station to ensure her safety.
