Local residents and tourists visit Munakata Grand Shrine's Hetsu shrine in Munakata, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Monday.

The shrine is part of the "Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region," which was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites on Sunday.

A 64-year-old farmer from Yame in the prefecture said, "I'm proud that a World Heritage site has been chosen from this prefecture."
