WATCH: 300m water slide takes over Seoul street

Residents in Seoul on Saturday (August 19) enjoyed a 300-metre long water slide installed by the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organising Committee (POCOG) to promote the upcoming Winter Games.

About 3,200 people took the slide as of 0800GMT (5p.m. local time).

More people looked around booths promoting the Winter Olympics and watched a music concert at the event dubbed "Bobsleigh in the City".

The event kicked off on Saturday at 0100GMT and will continue until Sunday (August 20) at 1300GMT, an organizer said.

The International Olympic Committee has said it was "closely monitoring" rising tensions on the Korean peninsula, less than 200 days before the 2018 Winter Olympics are set to begin in South Korea's Pyeongchang.

The Games return to the country next year for the first time since the 1988 summer Olympics in Seoul. But what would be the first winter Games in Asia outside Japan and the first of three consecutive Olympics on the continent risk being overshadowed by the mounting crisis involving North Korea.
